

Lydia McDonald (née Saul) is the Keeper of Social History at The Higgins Bedford, museum and art gallery since 2008 and specialises in the broad and diverse local history of Bedfordshire. She is minute secretary for the John Bunyan Museum and Library Committee and has been on committee for 16 years. Lydia is a member of Bunyan Meeting church and soprano in the choir.
Lydia studied BA History at University of Kent at Canterbury, and specialised with a MA Museum Studies degree at UCL. She is also has the Associateship of the Museum Association (AMA), an additional professional qualification.
Lydia has worked in Bedford in total 19 years, with a further 3 years as Assistant Keeper of Social History at Kingston upon Hull City Museums Service at Wilberforce House Museum 2005 – 2008, before moving back to take up her current Curatorial role. She is Museum Mentor for over 14 years for the Cowper and Newton Museum at Olney.
In her spare time Lydia sings with Bedford Choral Society. Lydia is enthusiastic to see this significant 400th Anniversary of John Bunyan’s birth celebrated to its full potential and recognised locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
